Where To Start Your Fitness Journey
Before You Begin
One of the first steps in a fitness journey involves sitting down and making some decisions on what you want that journey to include. Whether it be to tone, build muscle, or feel good in the skin you’re in, having an idea of the overall goal will go a long way in deciding just what steps will need to be taken.
What You’ll Need
Most people have an idea of what “fit” looks like. For some it may come down to a number (body weight, fat percentage, BMI, etc.), put simply - what people really want is to feel that they look good, not just to other, but to themselves. What you will need is an understanding of what that looks like for you so you know how to concentrate your efforts to achieve that. Lets look at some of the factors to a fitness journey.
1 —
Morning or a night person?
The time of day that you choose to devote to fitness and workouts is a critical part of your ability to focus on your journey. For some, beginning the day with a work out can bring benefits of all day energy. Having a work out to start your day means that you start the day with an investment in yourself before going into an office or logging into a computer for work, which can change your daily outlook and provide a good boast for the rest of the day. For others, ending their day with a work out can act as a cathartic activity, giving them the ability to destress from the day with physical activity and leading to a more restful slumber. Both can have their advantage, but what matters is what works best for you and your schedule.
2 —
How much time do you have?
When focusing on your journey, it is best to be free from distractions and have that time set aside for only that. Ask yourself how much time can you set aside for this and how often? It is ok to start off with something more manageable like 30 minutes and work up to a full hour a few days a week. The goal is to give yourself the ability to invest in your journey fully during that time, so make sure that you can actually do that.
3 —
Warming up
Warming up before a work out has several benefits that are sort term and long term. It has the benefit of raising your hear rate and getting your muscles and body ready for the challenge ahead. It also has the long term effect of helping to increase your body’s ability to adjust and transform throughout the journey. Warming up is important, so let’s not skip it!
4 —
Don’t over do it (especially in the beginning)
It can be hard not to jump into a fitness journey on your first day or week and want to go as hard as you can, trying to push yourself to get those results as quickly as possible. What we need to remember is that our bodies and minds are intricate machines that with the right push, can achieve incredible things over time. It is ok to test the waters when it comes to a routine, and move, or even a lower weight to give yourself the time to get familiar with the mechanic and how it affect you. Start slow and build your way up!

Stick with it!!
Like any investment, it will take time to see the return. You may see some results quickly but the overall idea it to build a routine that keeps you engaged and motivated. Continue to push yourself and we will continue to push with you!
